Jesus talked about money often. In Matthew 6, Jesus encourages us to not worry but rather seek His kingdom first, confident that our Heavenly Father will meet our needs (Matthew 6:31-34).
Our giving does three things:
- Our finance directs and defines our heart. Jesus said that our heart will always be with what we treasure. His encouragement here is to not primarily focus on temporary wealth, rather our first concern should be heavenly treasure (Matthew 6:19-21).
- Our finance also provides for the mission to reach and empower people with the promise of Jesus.
- Our giving unlocks supernatural blessing in our lives.
In Malachi 3:10, God is calling His people back to relationship with Him. This return would be evident in their financial stewardship. He encourages His people to test him in this vital area of financial trust and see God’s promise released in their Monday lives.
Our tithe is literally 10% of what we earn. We bring this to acknowledge our dependence on, and obedience to God. Our offerings are in addition to our tithes, these represent our generosity and our faith seed.
