Every service has a vocalist that is also rostered as Vocal Director. This person makes contact with the team during the week, allocates parts, liaises with the music director, communicates any changes to the services to the Vocalists and makes any last minute changes to the BVs roster if someone is sick. The vocal director also runs warm ups for vocalists on a Sunday and on a Wednesday night rehearsal

FAQs for this role
What warm ups should I run the team through?
We are working on creating a warm up library for you so that you are equipped to do this with confidence. But this is a good general warm up structure to follow:
- Stretch
- Light scales (to wake up the vocal folds)
- Longer scales (this incorporates good breathing technique)
- A breathing exercise / annunciation exercise / projection exercise
- A slide down to vocal fry / sirens to end
What should I do if a team member contacts me about being unavailable?
If a team member is away and has to decline more than a week away from the service, just flag it with your team leader who can make a judgement call about whether a replacement is required.
If a team member is away or sick and has to decline on the week of the service, it is the role of the Vocal Director to organise a replacement if required. If a replacement cannot be made, the vocal director is to make contact with the team leader to discuss.
If a worship leader or song leader declines, contact the creative leader/pastor in your location and they will organise a replacement.
Minimum vocal team requirements are:
- A full front row of vocalists (3 BVs, WL & SL)
- At least one vocalist of each gender
What are my responsibilities when it comes to rehearsals?
The Vocal Director is responsible to contact the Vocals team at least 4 days before rehearsal to remind them it is on, and to be checking Elvanto for all the service info.
During rehearsal, this is your opportunity to check in with your team and see if they know their parts, and see how you can help them. This is a great window for us to train and upskill our vocalists - remember, excellence is bringing your new best every time!
